💯DAYS in AK💚BACK ON THE ALASKA HIGHWAY

WEDNESDAY

ALASKAN STOP #39

DOT LAKE ROADSIDE PULLOUT

DOT LAKE, AK

I must admit the section of the Richardson Highway between Paxon and Delta Junction is spectacular and should not be missed during any roadtrip of Alaska.

From the moment we left the campground the scenery just kept out doing itself around every turn in the road. I can't describe in words the beauty of this region so I guess I'll let the photos speak for themselves. And as good as Tricia is at taking photos, it's so much better when you're viewing it live and in person.

At 8:16AM we were just passing the northern reaches of Paxon Lake.

At 8:37AM we pulled into a rest area and found this salmon stream, but sadly no salmon.

At 9:04AM we came around a bend in the road and saw a far off glacier.

Here is a closeup using Tricia's big zoom lens.

At 9:17AM we approached an area called Rainbow Ridge,
but without the sunshine there were only muted colors.

At 9:31AM we caught a little sunshine and a section of the Alaskan Pipeline.

AT 9:34AM this photo was taken just around the next corner.

At 10:10AM we saw snow topped peaks just outside of the town of Delta Junction.
In the foreground you can see the dust being blown up from the Delta River's braided riverbed.

At 10:38AM we had completed our northbound travels on the Richarson Highway, made a u-turn in the town of Delta Junction, and finally began our southbound travels on the Alaska Highway as we head for the exit at the Canadian Border.

Just before noon we pulled off the road and had a nice lunch made up of corned beef sandwiches and cheddar cheese doodles, yummy! Then back on the road in search of a suitable location to spend the night. The definition of suitable in this case means three things.

First, it has to be FREE. Second, it must have a decent view out the rear of THE POD. Third, and most importantly, there must be good cell phone service so I can create and upload this blogpost.

At 12:58PM we found a suitable spot in the small town of Dot Lake, about fifty miles north of tomorrow's destination of Tok. That will make for a short drive tomorrow as we arrive at another First-Come-First-Serve Alaska State Park campground for our Labor Day Weekend visit.

Here is ROVER and THE POD backed into a space for the night ...

... with this view of Dot Lake.
