💯DAYS in AK💚R&R IN MOOSE PASS💚

WEDNESDAY

ALASKAN STOP #30

TRAIL RIVER CAMPGROUND

CHUGACH NATIONAL FOREST outside of Moose Pass, AK

Like the blog title says, "We're here in Moose Pass for five days of a little R&R. Unfortunately this R&R is not Rest and Recreation, no the version we are experiencing is more like Rest and Recuperation.

After a week in the medium sized town of Seward (pop. 2800) we both came down with flu-like symptoms. We were in close proximity with 150+ people on the wildlife and glacier tour, another 150+ people while exploring the Sealife Center and countless others during a trip to the only grocery store and one delicious lunch we ate out while in town.

Somehere along the line we picked up "the bug", I hesitate to call it COVID because I don't want to raise any alarms. We both are feeling much better now and will probably start wearing masks again when in close proximity with the general public.

Our best weather day was moving day.

The rest of our visit was drab and dreary.

Even the lake looked unhappy with the weather.

THURSDAY - Today we had planned a truly Alaskan Adventure, but with us feeling under the weather and the weather being unfavorable for our activity, we passed and decided to postpone it for a more pleasant day.

What did we have planned you ask? We were going to experience the thrill of taking off and landing on the water in a float plane, just like all the Alaskan bushpilots do every day. This was scheduled to be a one hour flight and would have taken us over three glaciers along the route.

Oh well, we'll find another opportunity before we leave Alaska I'm sure.

SATURDAY - After several days of R&R and virtually continuous rain showers we finally decided to get out of THE POD and revisit Tern Lake which is just 15-miles up the road from where we are camped.

Besides, with no internet signal at the campground we needed to download more books to read!

A cloudy and rainy day at Tern Lake.

Not the way it looked when we were here just last week.

One big change a weeks worth of constant rain will bring is an abundance of different wild mushrooms sprouting up everywhere. All of these and hundreds more could be found within walking distance of our campsite. We're not sure which are edible and which should be avoided, but the squirrels didn't seem to be picky about which ones they ate.
