💯DAYS in AK💚DEEP CREEK BEACH💚

MONDAY

ALASKAN STOP #27

DEEP CREEK
BEACH AND CAMPGROUND

OUTSIDE OF NINILCHIK, AK

First thing this morning I drove the short distance over to the Homer Fish Processing Plant to pick up Tricia's catch from yesterday. For a small fee they pick the fish up at the dock, then cut the fish into meal size servings, individually vacuum seal it and freeze it overnight in a -30°F freezer. Her two fish yielded 5.2 pounds of delicious halibut, which is now located in our tiny freezer. And don't forget the two huge fillets we shared with our little group for yesterday's dinner. Not a bad haul all things considered!

We set out this morning with the intentions of spending tonight at the Ninilchik View Campground, but when we arrived only a few of the 14 campsites where unoccupied and none of those had a good view. There are several state park campgrounds in the Ninilchik area so we headed back up the road a few miles to our second choice, Deep Creek Beach and Campground.

Here we found just the opposite! Of the 100 campsites here way more than half were vacant. We easily found a great campsite that backs up to an awesome view of the Cook Inlet. I'm still not sure why this place is so empty.

There is a busy boat launching company making noise at the far end of the campground, but from where we are parked all we can hear is the roar of the waves breaking on the shoreline and all the gulls of course.

Why was this our second choice? I'm still trying to figure that one out! Too bad we only have one night to spend here, but we have big plans for the next week. So stay tuned!

Plenty of room to back right up to the beach and park ROVER next to THE POD.

Notice the sites next to us are empty. Some of them were occupied by dinner time.

The view out of our dinette window (i.e. my office).

Yes! That is a volcano, one of five actually, that can be seen from here on a clear day.
They are all located in the Lake Clark National Park and Preserve.

It's now 10:00PM and the sun still hasn't set over Cook Inlet southwest of Anchorage!
