💯DAYS in AK💚A NIGHT WITH ELECTRICITY💚

SUNDAY

ALASKAN STOP #34

GOLDEN NUGGET RV PARK

ANCHORAGE, AK

Rather than spend another night in a Fred Meyer's parking lot we've had a change of plans.

After 44-nights of not having electricity and nothing but the sun to charge our solar batteries we decided to "bite the bullet" and pay for one night with electricity.

Our last sunny day was 17-days ago on August 4th, by the end of that day our batteries were 100% charged. Since then it's been extremely cloudy at best, most days we never saw the sun, even though there has actually been 15+ hours between sunrise and sunet times.

Each day for the last two weeks we've been losing a little bit of ground on the "state of charge" on our batteries. This morning the batteries were at 36% charge and we decided to pay for one night ($53) to have electric hookups and "top off" our batteries.

Some of you may be thinking, "Don't you carry a generator?" Yes we do, a Honda 2000 that runs on propane, but with all the rain we've been having it's just simpler to hook up an electrical cord and recharge the batteries.

Also we'll be able to run our refrigrator and water heater on electric, our electric space heaters all today and tonight, plus cook with our electric induction cooktop. All that saves on using up our propane and helps offset the $33 extra cost of the electric campsite.

When it comes to RV camping in Anchorage your choices are limited. We chose the Golden Nugget RV Park because it's close to the RV Repair business we need to be at in the morning. The RV shop opens at 10:00AM and check out time here is at 11:00AM, perfect!

Golden Nugget is nothing special, but it is reasonably priced and has clean bathrooms and showers. As a bonus there is also laundry equipment and free wi-fi up near the offices, we don't need either of those services.

Also since it is getting late in the tourist season we had no problem driving in unannounced and securing a campsite without reservations. I'm always afraid of making unseen reservations at private parks that offer long-term living because some of those can appear quite nice in their website photos, but upon arrival they are actually quite "trashy looking", this one was not!

We even have empty sites on both sides of us!
