SCHOODIC SCENIC BYWAY (Acadia NP - ME)

DAY 8

ATTENTION!

Since we are going to be here in Acadia National Park for two weeks and we'll be taking hundreds of photos, I thought I'd bring you a slideshow of each day's highlights in a separate post. At the end of the two weeks you'll get our typical post including campground and travel reviews, along with our daily musings of what we've been doing when not out taking photos!

Just north of our location along the Maine coastline is another section of Acadia National Park, the Schoodic Peninsula, which includes Schoodic Woods Campground.

With a good weather forecast for today we decided to take a drive over to the this campground. It is the only national Park campground with water and electricity on each campsite, but it is also located far away from the park's major attractions.

There is a one way park loop road that takes you past most of this regions attractions and comprises most of the Schoodic National Scenic Byway.

A rather large welcome sign wouldn't you say?
The tide rushing out to sea under the roadway
Back inside Acadia National Park we find Frazer Point
That's Cadillac Mountain in the background
The next few photos are pictures while driving along the Schoodic National Scenic Byway.
With the sea constantly eroding the shorline...
...it wears down these thin channels in the rock...
...into wider and wider channels.
A vein of softer black iron ore breaks away from between the granite rock...
...and creates the jagged coastline of Maine.
Does anyone know what kind of flower this is?
Check out the huge tidal change from the current low tide to the high tide waterline.
Most of these are lobster boats taking a break from working.
Here are some lobster traps waiting to be set to catch some lucky person's dinner.
This is considered yard art in the coastal area of Maine.
A beautiful field of flowers near the end of the Byway.
Like I said, this is THE END.
