ALASKAN STOP #20

EKLUTNA LAKE CAMPGROUND

CHUGACH STATE PARK in CHUGIAK, AK

We had another "first experience" today when for the first time in 4-years we had to pay to dump our waste tanks. For the tidy sum of $15 we eliminated the waste inside of our black and grey tanks. They did not have potable (i.e. drinking) water available, which is usually included in the cost. Our next campsite is at a state park where they do have clean water, so we'll just fill up for free when we leave.

We have been having a lot of success with the Gas Buddy App to locate cheaper gasoline, usually by leaving the main Highway System and traveling 3-4 miles towards residential areas where gas is 30 to 40 cents a gallon cheaper. Every little bit helps!

We only moved 50 miles today, but the last 10-miles was nearly straight up on Eklutna Lake Road. ROVER's transmission temperatures were nearing the danger zone just about the time we reached the top where the campground is located. We'll reward ROVER tomorrow for a job well done with an oil change and tire rotation.

Campsite #23 at Eklutna Lake Campground in Chugach State Park

Eklutna Lake is just a short walk in the woods from our campsite.

After getting all set up in our new campsite we traveled back down the mountain and into the town of Wasilla. We need groceries! For the next 4 hours we went to two different stores (Fred Meyer and Walmart) go get everything we'll need for the next month.

Total for groceries today? $466.40!

TUESDAY - Yesterday it was all about the groceries, today it's FORD in the morning and laundry in the afternoon. If we get everything done like we should we'll have tomorrow to enjoy Eklutna Lake. Also the weather is forecast to improve tomorrow which will be a big changet from the cloudy and wet conditions we've had the last couple of days.

WEDNESDAY - The weather is still lousy so around 11:00AM we packed it up and left for our next destination.

There is no sense hanging around a beautiful lake when you can't sit outside and enjoy it!
