ALASKAN STOP #18MONTANA CREEK CAMPGROUNDOUTSIDE OF WILLOW, AK |
Today our friends Katherine and John, also Airstream owners, finally caught up to us in Alaska when they stopped in at the Denali South View parking lot where we spent the night. They also had with them their friends Lis and Kenton (who we met in Mississippi last November) who they picked up at the Fairbanks airport last week.
We took a last look at Denali before starting our mini-Airstream caravan down the road to Montana Creek Campground where we'll spend two nights camping side-by-side with them.
We made plans to once again go back into Talkeetna tomorrow and show the town to our four new arrivals and invited Winston and VerJean to meet up with us for lunch.
FRIDAY - After finding a place to park in downtown Talkeetna the six of us began exploring all the gift shops, bars and restaurants in town. A little before noon we saw Winston and VerJean pulling into town and put in a request for outside seating for eight at the Denali BrewPub Restaurant where we ate earlier in the week.
After all the introductions were complete we got down to the serious business of beer, beverage and lunch selections. Tricia and I ordered the exact same meal we had last time!
(from L to R) Kenton & Lis - VerJean & Winston - Katherine & John - Phil & Tricia
With Kenton and Liz currently living in Southern California, VerJean and Winston living in Central Michigan, Katherine and John living in Denver, CO and us recently residing in Southern Florida, I'd say all together we have traveled from four distinct regions of the United States to meetup here in Alaska.
There was no shortage of conversation at the table with a wide range of topics going on simultaneously. When Tricia and I left to begin this "new lifestyle" of perpetual travel we sadly left behind many friendships, some were decades old. We still maintain many of those friendships through phone and zoom calls, emails and yes, even blog comments.
What we couldn't know for sure was if we would befriend fellow travelers on the road, occasionally recrossing paths with them (sometimes by accident and sometimes planned well ahead like here in Alaska) and be able to make and maintain a new kind of friendship to add to our conventional ones from before beginning our travels.
We have been lucky to meet several other fellow travelers who wished to make the leap from merely acquaintances to bonafide friends with us, among them are the people you see sitting here at the table.
