💯DAYS in AK💚OUR RETURN TO THE CHRISTOCHINA RIVER💚

MONDAY

ALASKAN STOP #5

Chistochina River Pullout

OUTSIDE OF CHISTOCHINA, AK

This morning we once again said "see you later" to Winston and VerJean as they head off on their own journey.

We knew going down to Valdez last week meant that we would be traveling the same route back out. It's kind of like Key West in that regard, it's at the end of the road and there's only one road in and out.

On the way down we marked several roadside pullouts that had great views as possible camping spots in our Milepost book. Problem was we didn't take into account they would all be so unlevel that they didn't make good overnight stops afterall. After several failed attempts to find a suitably level spot we saw just how close we were to the Chistochina River Pullout where we camped on the way down, so we headed there and that's where we ended up.

Along our travels today we did make a couple of sightseeing stops. The first was at Bridal Veil Falls, again, we just can't get enough of the scenery surrounding it. This time we hiked a quarter mile up The Goat Trail which has a trailhead in the same pullout for the falls.

With a name like "The Goat Trail" we should have known it would be straight up a rocky cliff.

It did offer this wonderful and different view of Bridal Veil Falls from high above the roadway.

Once again we stopped at the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve Visitor Center in Copper Center, AK. Last week we were in a hurry and didn't get to watch the 22-minute documentary film about the park. It starts exactly on the hour and this time around we timed it perfectly for the 3:00PM showing.

Also as luck would have it the Native Alaskan Cultural Center was open and we got to check that out too. It was closed last week when we came by. The young man there was very friendly and informative, which made the visit more enlightening.

This hand crafted native style fish wheel was on display in front of the cultural center.

We had better hurry and get parked before the storm gets here!
