CAMP RICHARDSON CAMPGROUND - USFS (CA)

THURSDAY - I know I'm starting to sound like the proverbial "broken record", but once again we find ourselves in the same predicament. We have to be off our current site by noon, but we can't check-in at our next site until 2:00PM.

Only this time it's worse! Our next campsite is only 2.7-miles down the road! What to do?

The United States Forest Service's Lake Tahoe Management Unit's Ranger Station.

At least this time there was an easy solution. The Forest Ranger Station is right across the street from the campground and they have a huge parking lot with dedicated RV parking slots.

After we got comfortably parked in the lot, we went inside and looked around, before we hung out in their parking lot for several hours and then proceeded to our next campsite.

Since we are only staying here 1-night to charge our batteries, dump our waste tanks and enjoy some A/C for only the 2nd time in the last 6-weeks of summer, we were not planning to unhook THE POD from ROVER tonight.

It just makes it easier when it's time to leave in the morning to not have to go through the process of hitching up again.

When we arrived at our campsite we had THE POD all backed in and level before we realized the water and electrical hookups were over 50' away in the very front of the site and on the wrong side of the trailer.

We carry 3 different lengths of 30-AMP electrical cords. A 15' cord that we use 90% of the time because most campgrounds have the electrical hookups on the correct side and at the back of the campsite where most RVs plug in. We also have a 25' cord when the 15' cord just won't reach. We also carry another 25' cord that is an extension cord that we can add to either the 15' or 25' cord to make them 40' or 50' long.

I can't remember any other time that some combination of these three cords didn't suffice.

So we pulled THE POD out of the campsite and drove around the campground loop the wrong direction so that we could pull forward into our site to get our plug on the same side as the electric post. It was still a long way away, but we made it work!

Here we are with our ass end hanging out towards the street. It may look stupid, but it works.

There was plenty more room to spread out if we needed to.

We carry nearly 100' of drinking water hose so that's never an issue to make it reach.

After we were all hooked up to the electrical post and had the batteries charging and the A/C cranking to cool off THE POD we rewarded ourselves for being so inventive with a trip to the Ice Cream Shop that is within walking distance of the campground.

We each chose to get a 2-scoop sundae and I hope you weren't expecting it to last long enough for us to take any photos.

Tomorrow we head over the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range towards the central valley area of California and continue our sightseeing.
