SNOQUALMIE FALLS (WA)

SUNDAY - Today we moved another 75-miles south through Washington state to a small county park with electric and water hookups for just $35 a night. That's a pretty good deal considering the cost of a hookup site in the state parks we visited here were between $43 and $46 a night.

All the sites here are easy pullthrough sites.

Every site also comes with it's very own picnic table and fire ring.

Does anybody know the name of that mountain over there? It's about 55-miles south of here.

MONDAY - The reason for our stop here is because we have one sightseeing outing planned.

With the Cascade Mountain Range and the year round snowcapped peaks there are numerous waterfalls in the state.

Today we are out to see the 268' tall Snoqualmie Falls, which is known internationally for its frequent appearance in the television series Twin Peaks (1990-1991 & 2017).

When you arrive at Snoqualmie Falls you have a decision to make of where to park.
You can park in the City owned lot for $7-hour within a short walk to the falls,
you can take the FREE City Shuttle to the same falls parking lot,
OR
you can park cross the street in the FREE Tribe owned parking lots
and walk across CA-202 on the provided pedestrian bridge.

Your first glimpse of the falls isn't exactly what I was expecting to see,...

...but if you walk 50-yards north (right) you find the iconic viewpoint everyone knows.

During the rainy season (NOV-MAR) the falls look more like a curtain, spanning the opening.
The rest of the year it pretty much looks like this all the time.

On October 31, 2019, the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe closed on purchasing Snoqualmie Falls, the Salish Lodge and Spa, the Snoqualmie Falls Gift Shop, and 45 acres of property north of and across State Route 202 for the far market price of $125,000,000.

The Tribe now owns this parcel and another 12,000 acres in the nearby area, but only the 55-acre land along Interstate 90 is considered Reservation Land. When I hear the term Reservation Land, I think of three things, casinos, inexpensive buffets and inexpensive gasoline, because they don't have to charge the state sales tax on gas.

Like today, we purchased gasoline on the Reservation for $4.79 and from the pumps we could see the price at the Chevron Station across the street, not on the Reservation, a full 54¢ higher at $5.33! And yet there we still people in line over there?
