PREHISTORIC TRACKWAYS NATIONAL MONUMENT (NM)

MONDAY - Today we'll be heading south down Interstate 25 for just short of 100-miles to Las Cruces, NM.

While in Las Cruces we'll be picking up some Amazon packages at a CVS Drug Store, getting our laundry done and purchasing $2.36 gasoline at Walmart's Murphy Gas Station. We also grabbed lunch at an Asian Buffet for less than $15 a piece.

The very distinct looking Organ Mountains outside of Las Cruces, NM.

All of this running around town was done before we set up camp and parked ROVER and THE POD at an OHV Trailhead parking lot in the Prehistoric Trackways National Monument, which is managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

Most of the really nice dinosaur tracks that were found here have been carved out of the rock bed and are now on display in museums. The rest of the known track locations are being kept a secret so that they are not disturbed.

The entire National Monument is now an Off Highway Vehicle area, where people enjoy riding their 4x4's and Jeeps. This parking lot is said to be packed on the weekends, but during the week we found it is fairly empty.

When all is said and done, it makes an excellent FREE place to overnight, much quieter than our typical Walmart parking lot stay.

TUESDAY - We knew ahead of time this wasn't going to be a sightseeing stop, just a chance to get a few chores done in a larger town before we head back out into the desert for the next few weeks.

As always Tricia was up early for her morning walk and took a few photos. Now that Daylight Savings Time is over she is no longer walking in the dark for most of the walk.

Las Cruces and the Organ Mountains at 5:30AM.

At 6:00AM the same view looks entirely different just 30-minutes later.

At 6:15AM the sun is shining brightly on ROVER and THE POD.

The only chore we didn't get around to yesterday is grocery shopping, so we'll make another stop on our way to our next destination today.
