MOOCHDOCKING IN VENICE (FL)

MONDAY - We only have a short 74-mile trip up the Florida west coast to reach our destination for the night.

Again it's friends of ours who have fled the hustle and bustle of South Florida and relocated to a quieter place for their retirement. They chose the medium sized town of Venice, FL (pop. 27,272) and now start all of their travels from the Gulf Coast side of Florida.

They have a huge side yard where Gary's Workshop is located.
They also store their cozy Aliner Camper Trailer on a pad with electric and water hookups.

When we arrived there were work trucks all over the roadway in front of their home. Today was the day they were having a new roof installed on the house and I had a rough time negotiating the placement of THE POD in their yard.

When I was finally settled I came within inches of taking off the corner of Gary's Workshop, not to mention the awning on THE POD. What's the old saying? No harm, no foul!

After chatting it up for an hour sitting in their living room we headed out to lunch at the nearby Tony's Chicago Beef Co. Restaurant. Their specialty is serving up juicy Italian Beef sandwiches loaded up with peppers and onions, which the ladies thoroughly enjoyed. Gary and I went with their daily special of a Hamburger and Fries, which we also thoroughly enjoyed.

After everyone had finished their meals we asked them to pose for this photo.

They met 6-years ago, just about the same time we left South Florida and started our fulltime travels. We were already 15-year long friends with Vicky from all the outdoor activities we shared while running the WANNA DO OUTDOORS Meetup group and continuing on with THE OUTSIDERS Meetup group.

Now that we've met Gary for only the second time, we can honestly say that we're so happy for both of them finding each other at this time in their life. They're both awesome people and great friends!
