AN OVERNGHT REST AT A REST AREA (MT)

WEDNESDAY - We have been on the road for a little over 7-years now, and until this week we had only spent 5-nights in Montana, with two of those being in Walmart parking lots.

Well it's time we fixed that situation! We got off to a good start with a 2-night visit to Montana's "First State Park". In 1937 the the U.S. government deeded over the Lewis and Clark Cavern National Monument to the state of Montana and it quickly became Montana's first state park.

This action is not unique, as a matter of fact, it's occured 10 other times.

We are going to be spending the next few weeks in Montana while visiting a couple more state parks and even one National Park. By this time next month we will have pretty much visited all of our "bucket list" locations in the state.

We had such a delicious lunch at the Cafe up at the Cave Visitor Center yesterday afternoon we decided to drive back up there at 9:00AM this morning and enjoy a couple of their breakfast menu items this time.

At 8:45 this morning we notice the entire top of Cave Mountain was in the clouds.

By the time we got up there 15-minutes later they had cleared out a bit.

By 11:00AM we were on the road, well ahead of the noon check-out deadline.

We drove 8-miles of 2-lane canyon roads before we hopped back on Interstate-90 West.

All along the 8-miles we had a scenic river, railroad tracks and scenic mountainside.

When the scenic river veered away the mountainside picked up the slack.

This is Interstate 90 as it drops in on the town of Butte, once the largest city in Montana.

There were several rural areas the Interstate passed through, like this one.

We eventually made it to our planned overnight stop at the Bearmouth I-90 WB Rest Area.
The place is large, clean and for the moment at least, quiet. Let's hope it stays that way!
